Fitters & Builders

Five People, One Bench, No Rotating Staff

You will be fitted by the person whose name is on the card, and the same person will be here when you come back for adjustments. That continuity is the whole point of a small studio.

Dale Whitcombe

Founder · Master Fitter

Dale opened the original grip bench in 2009 after fifteen years in club repair, most of it behind a counter at a public facility on the Westside. He still runs the majority of the driver and fairway sessions himself and does the final loft and lie check on anything that leaves the shop. He is the reason the studio insists on measuring hands before anything else — a habit he picked up from a builder in Savannah in the late nineties and has never dropped.

Renata Ocampo

Wedge & Short Game Fitter

Renata built our wedge program and maintains the turf board. She came out of a teaching background rather than a repair one, which shows in how she runs a session: lots of questions about the shots you actually face, very little talk about specifications until she has watched you play them. She is the person to ask if you want to understand why the same bounce number behaves differently in wet bermuda than in dry sand.

Theo Baskin

Build Bench Lead · Grip Technician

Theo does the cutting, boring, weighting and grip work, which is most of the physical craft in the building. He is exacting about cure time and refuses to hand over a club that has not been re-measured after the epoxy sets, which has cost us same-day turnarounds more than once and has never once cost us a spec complaint. He also keeps the tape and compound library, which now runs to over forty grip models.

Jenna Poulos

Putter & Roll Fitter

Jenna runs the roll strip and every putter session. Her approach starts with hand pressure and grip cross-section rather than head shape, on the argument that a putter you are strangling will never start the ball where you aimed it regardless of what the head is. She has a background in club repair on the amateur circuit and a working knowledge of just about every counterbalance setup on the market.

Curtis Mabry

Scheduling & Client Care

Curtis handles the calendar, the phone and the follow-up window. If you booked a session and got a call the day before asking what shots have been bothering you, that was him — he collects that so the fitter walks into the bay already knowing what to look for. He also chases down the ninety-day check-ins, which is why people actually come back for their free adjustments.

How Sessions Are Assigned

You Get Matched to the Bench, Not to Whoever Is Free

When Curtis takes a booking he asks two questions: which club, and what specifically is going wrong with it. That determines who runs the session. Wedges and anything about turf contact go to Renata. Putters go to Jenna. Driver, fairway and full-bag work sit with Dale. Theo builds whatever comes out of any of them.

If your answer to the second question turns out to be a technique problem rather than an equipment one, you will hear that during the session rather than after the invoice. We would rather lose the build than sell you a club that cannot fix what is actually wrong.

Ask for Someone by Name

If a friend sent you here and told you who to see, say so when you book. We will put you in that person's calendar.

Rather talk it through than fill in a form? The bench phone rings straight to whoever is fitting that day.
